Since the mid-1990s, computer and communications equipment have evolved rapidly, providing a vast array of different functions. The E-Forensics team monitors increasingly sophisticated technologies, new capabilities and the enormous volume and variety of equipment available on the market to ensure that its techniques are current.
The Forensic Science Service provides more than a technical service. It has the resources and interpretation skills to be able to focus a search on information pertinent to an inquiry, avoiding the time-consuming process of filtering large amounts of extraneous data. This carefully targeted approach can save valuable time and resources in an investigation.
Forensic Science Service can also take a broader forensic approach, going beyond information retrieval to use any of its other forensic capabilities, such as DNA matching, to link devices to specific individuals or locations.
