FSS-iIntroduction
If you are looking for a fast, efficient and reliable way to automate your DNA analysis and interpretation processes, then FSS-i3 is the solution for you. The Forensic Science Service has led the World in the development of DNA databases and automated solutions. Now, with FSS-i3, we have removed the last bottleneck in the automation process – the interpretation of DNA profiles.

Three systems in one
The FSS-i3 DNA expert system suite combines three main areas of functionality to provide one powerful solution.

DNA interpretation
The i-STRess tool carries out allele interpretation and designation based on a fully customisable rule set. It can process raw data from all commercially available STR systems and has an 'administrator' function to ensure that only defined personnel can change settings permanently.

Analysis of two person DNA mixtures
The i-STReam tool automates the interpretation of basic two person DNA mixtures using either height or area data.

Anti-contamination check
The i-ntegrity tool highlights the potential occurrence of within-batch contamination by carrying out well-to-well comparisons. No other DNA expert system incorporates this level of anti-contamination checking.

Reap the benefits of FSS-i3
Developed by forensic scientists for forensic scientists, FSS-i3 can deliver a wide range of benefits to your organisation:

  • Improved consistency in results
  • Lower error rates
  •  Faster throughput and higher productivity
  •  Reduced unit cost of DNA analysis
  • Personnel can be reassigned to higher-value tasks

The automated solution you can trust
FSS-i3 is one of the most reliable, secure and safe DNA interpretation systems available today.

FSS-i3 automatically generates audit files which record how the system performs throughout the analytical process. These files are date and time-stamped and identify which operator and computer were involved. Once generated the audit files cannot be altered.
In addition, the FSS-i3 suite has undergone an extensive validation period using both DNA database and casework sample data. Over one million DNA profiles have been analysed and loaded to the UK National DNA database using these systems.
