Forensic Science Service’s firearms and ammunitions operations are the longest established in the UK. Today the unit commands worldwide respect for the quality of forensic study and the unmatched expertise of the scientific team.

The team of more than 20 specialist scientists, with over 300 years’ combined experience, handles between 2,000 and 2,500 cases annually in two laboratories. These range from simple possession of a firearm or ammunition, to cases of robbery, murder and terrorism.

Our experts are on hand to attend crime scenes and post mortems 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All our experts have unparalleled experience in scene and wound ballistics interpretation.

The team provides classification of weapons and ammunition for statements in courts of law, addressing and interpreting where required all aspects of relevant UK legislation.
